Andrew Curtis

Andrew Curtis picAndrew Curtis is a Professor in the School of GeoSciences, University of Edinburgh, and is the Director of Edinburgh Seismic Research - a centre of excellence in exploration science and technology. Full details of his research and publications are available here.

Andrew worked in the Exploration industry for 8 years in the research laboratories of Schlumberger - a leading oilfield service company - before joining the University of Edinburgh in 2004. Prior to Schlumberger, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow for 3 years in the Department of Theoretical Geophysics, University of Utrecht, The Netherlands. He is currently editor of two international journals - Petroleum Geoscience and Geophysical Journal International.

His technical expertise spans:

  • Exploration Seismology - subsurface monitoring, imaging and inversion
  • Earthquake Seismology - tomography and earthquake source location
  • Survey and Experimental Design - optimising model information
  • Seismic Interferometry - constructing signal from seismic 'noise'
