The Engineering ERPem e-Classroom - Booking the Videoconference

1. JVCS BOOKING SYSTEM

Where possible conferences should always be booked through the online JVCS booking system at:
http://www.jvcs.ja.net/cgi-bin/vcng/welcome.cgi

  • You must register to use this website (very straightforward)
  • A users’ guide is available on the web pages once you have registered
  • The Home Venue required for registration is erpem-sanderson@ed.ac.uk
  • Remember to set H.239 to ON to enable Video and Presentation material to be sent on two independent Channels
  • At the start of the conference the JVCS management centre will dial out to all the IP sites booked into the conference
  • You can use ‘favourites’ within the booking system for rooms you will link up to regularly

UK Educational Institutions

  • Many UK educational institutions are listed on the booking system already and you simply need to select the one you want.

Non Registered Sites (e.g. Industry and non-UK institutions)

  • With IP connectivity - To connect to non registered sites (for example within industry and non-UK institutions) they should supply you with their IP address and you should add them as a guest venue to your booking entering the IP address within the booking.
  • Without IP connectivity (ISDN only) - If a remote site does not have IP connectivity but only ISDN connectivity this requires call charges to be paid. The norm is for these sites to dial into JVCS and to pick up the call charges as in making a telephone call.  When a booking is made JVCS will supply you with the ISDN dial in number to pass to the remote site. Alternatively JVCS can dial out to a remote site but you will have to set up an invoicing account to use this service.  See: http://www.ja.net/documents/services/video/jvcs/isdnuserguide.pdf

2. NON-JVCS BOOKINGS
IP or E164 numbers

If your conference cannot be booked through JVCS and the remote site requires to dial into our room you will require either the room’s IP number or its E164 number to pass onto the remote site.  Please contact Laura Darling (Laura.Darling@ed.ac.uk) for this.

  • Note the E164 number, although it resembles a telephone number, is NOT an ISDN number, this facility only has IP connectivity. The E164 number is part of a Global Dialling Scheme designed to restrict access to the IP addresses of Videoconferencing Suites, however this requires the remote site to be registered with this Global Dialling Scheme.
  • ISDN connectivity to this facility is only provided via JVCS.
